Virtual vocational rehabilitation
How to be educated at home for tele-jobs
For many young people it is hard to join vocational training because of their disability. Mobility problems, tiredness or necessary care are often the main reasons. Solving this problem needs a different approach. In this flyer we will show you new opportunities.
REA College Nederland took the initiative to develop a new concept of distance learning. In the EU funded project Eminus, they are working on building virtual class rooms through which students can be trained at home for jobs they can do from their homes. Communication is the keyword in this concept in which audio/visual connections are very important.
Nationwide vocational rehabilitation
REA College Nederland is a vocational training institute
for
people with a physical disability. With five units spread
over the Netherlands it covers most of the country.
The institute has build high standard knowledge and
expertise
during the many years they offer tailor made
rehabilitation programs.
All these programs are aiming at
(re)integration on the labour market.
Which job fits best,
what skills and competences are needed and what
coaching
is required to achieve that? These questions are fundamental
in our approach.
Eminus as solution
Eminus is Latin for "on a distance, at a distance". For a distance learning project, this is a very suitable name. With virtual classes of four students per teacher, interactive communication and live presentation of lessons, it gets as close as it can get to regular education. Fast internet connections and streaming video allows non-verbal communication, a must if you want to deliver the message.
No more isolation
Joining the class room through Eminus will enable the student to be part of social activities. The will be missed if not present, they can find and talk to each other on the schoolyard and they will be empowered and prepared for a better perspective.
Jobs available
Five larger companies are committed to Eminus. They
help to determine the
profiles of competences needed
to fulfil the jobs they are offering the students
after
their training and internships are also provided. All jobs
can be done by
tele-working. The studies provided are:
Remote Network Engineer, Call Centre Employee,
Secretary Online, Bookkeeper Online, Telemarketeer
and Web Designer.
Transnational collaboration
As an EU-Equal Project, Eminus collaborates with projects in Germany, Ireland and Poland, gathered in the Isis Network for Transnational Collaboration. (www.isisnetwork.net) REA College Nederland is associated with the European Platform for Rehabilitation, an organization with members in all EU member states. Collaboration with other distance learning projects will be welcomed. Further information on Eminus can be found at www.eminus.nl.
Funding
Eminus has been made possible through funding by the European Union (ESF-EQUAL), UWV (the Dutch Social Assurance Company), NSGK (Dutch foundation for disabled children) and the Rabobank Foundation. Microsoft supports Eminus with research and software.
